Portrait Of Ruby – How-to guide
Painting a portrait in three hours using quick-drying Acrylic creates its own problems. Here’s how I tackled it!
PORTRAIT – ‘Ruby’ – Step by Step
I prepared a 37 x 53 cm board with several coats of household matt emulsion.
1. First lay-in of colour, tones, shadow areas and establishing the composition on the board.
2. Drawing in the features and establishing hair, head and body shapes. Balancing colour values.
3, Refining features. I decided to leave out the design on the red T-shirt
4. Finished portrait with background painted in and final detail in shadow and highlight areas.
TIME TAKEN: ± 2hours 30mins
MEDIA: Acrylic on board
