About the exhibition

Through His Eyes is a retrospective of Alan Kidd’s work, presented in the studio where much of it was made.

This exhibition focuses on landscapes.

The work

Alan’s paintings are rooted in the landscapes of Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. They are developed through a careful balance of structure and intuition.

He worked with the randomness of nature as well as control, splashing paint and then working into it to find the detail. The image is not imposed. It is found through the process.

Surfaces are disrupted and refined as the painting develops. Some decisions are made early, others happen in the moment. The work moves between intention and accident, with the final image emerging gradually.
